"I have been a clien't of Mark's for the past 11 years, in which time he has trained 8 horses for me to ride or sell.  He is honest, fair and a great teacher who is especially good with novice and amateur riders, as he is very patient and encouraging.  He will work with you and your current horse or help you search for a new one.  And best of all we have FUN!" - Judy Bretz

"Words can not express my gratitude.  Your coaching has been my escape, my university, my adventure, my looking forward to success.  I am looking forrward to more successes together" - Tammi

"Four years ago I was working as a veterinary assistant and I had the opportunity to help Dave Sievers DVM with a fall vaccination clinic at Guynn Training Center. After working with Mark, Jan and Dave I felt right at home in their barn. At that time my horse Leo was recovering from an injury.  Dave graciously offered to trade veterinary services for me to take a couple reining lessons with Mark. Shortly thereafter Dave and Mark were able to make Leo sound and we have been clients there ever since.

I am so grateful for everything that the Mark and assistant trainers have taught me over the years. It is always a pleasure going to the barn! Leo is well cared for and happy. We have also met incredible friends at the barn to travel to shows with and support one another. Mark is very knowledgeable, patient and has a really easy going fun personality. It is always encouraging and reassuring to hear his voice at the horse shows. Jessie Weisinger was also a great addition. She is positive, helpful and dedicated. They have taught me to be a confident, strong and much improved rider. With their help Leo and I have successfully shown at BHSA shows, the National Western Stock Show, Appaloosa breed shows and even last year we competed at the Appaloosa World Show in Fort Worth, Texas. At every lesson and horse show we continue to learn and improve." - Kelsey Magnusen

About Us

Who is Mark Guynn?
Mark was born and raised in Manitou Springs, Colorado where he led trail rides through the Garden of the Gods as a youth.  He graduated from Lamar Community College with an Associates degree in Horse Management and Training, and went on to complete an internship with renowned AQHA breeder and judge, Joe Taylor, in Moab, Utah.  Following his brief sojourn in Utah, Mark returned to Colorado and started Guynn Training Center, LLC now located in the beautiful foothills of Berthoud.  He and his wife, Jan, were married in 1992 and have 12 year old twins, Luke and Lindsay.  Lindsay is well on her way to becoming the next in the line of accomplished riders.

Mark and Jan both sit on the Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association Board of Directors, and have been heavily involved in the youth program for many years.  Mark is the AQHA committee chair for the Region 8 Committee, and serves as a liaison to the local affiliate, as well as sitting on their committee for year end awards.  Mark is a past president of the Rocky Mountain Reining Horse Association, and remains appointed to that Board of Directors for 2013.  Mark holds his AQHA, NRHA, and NRCHA judge’s cards.  He is a NRHA money earner, and has consistently produced both AQHA and APHA world show qualifiers.

Mark is most proud of his youth and non-pro clients, many of whom have qualified for World Show competition themselves.  In 2012 he took four youth to the AQHYA World Show in Reining, Haiden and Hunter DeJane, Shelby Diede, and Alyssa Neiberger, who finished 14th in that event.  This same group qualified for the Novice World Championship in 2012, it’s inaugural year, and ended up in the ribbons in the Youth Reining, and Geldings.  In 2011 he accompanied a similar group to the AQHYA World Show, and also coached Whizzy Harper in the Amateur Reining at the AQHA World Show, concurrently qualifying her mare Meradas Cash Cat in the Junior Reining.

Mark’s prefers to work with his horses and riders as TEAMS, arming each student with the knowledge and skill level to advance and compete on their own.  Challenging them to become self sufficient, he promotes synergy to take both horse and rider as far as they can go together as a team.  His track record demonstrates that his approach pays off in the show pen.  On off days when Mark is not coaching, judging or training, he enjoys spending time with his family or working on his second “love” - golf.

Meet Jan Guynn...
Jan holds up the administrative end of the operation, but is no stranger to the show arena herself. She grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio and rode horses in the Ohio and Kentucky area as a youth. After her first year of college she stayed in Colorado and accepted a position with Candy and Alan Owen doing stalls and other necessary ground work. From there, her involvement in the horse industry blossomed.

In 1982 Jan opened "Horsefeathers", a custom tack shop in Louisville, Colorado. Her primary focus at the shop was designing and building custom show clothes for Youth and Amateur exhibitors. She did many Dress Clinics across the country and enjoyed working with the youth so much that she began a long term serving as Youth Adviser for the Rocky Mountain Quarter Horse Association. She also worked with the Rocky Mountain Paint Horse Association and remains involved with the Rocky Mountain Reining Horse Association and their youth programs. Jan was instrumental developing the Colorado State Fair Youth Freestyle to its present status as one of Colorado's most anticipated youth events.  She still serves on the RMQHA Youth Committee, and holds working with the youth one of her most cherished passions.

In 1992 Jan and Mark were married and she closed "Horsefeathers", graduated from paralegal school, and now works in the field of law. Prior to the birth of her precious twins, she was deeply involved in the Paint horse industry showing her stallion, CC
Cowboysuperloot, primarily in Hunter Under Saddle classes. She accumulated over 450 points, earned three Superiors, and several ROMs in just a few years working under the guidance of Leslie Lange.

Showing took a back seat once the twins were born, but Jan has recently purchased a 2007 Appendix Gelding, Lovin Every Minute and looks forward to showing in the Hunt Seat Events in 2013!
